JERUSALEM (AP) — The night was a getaway. Thousands of young men and women gathered at a vast field in southern Israel near the Gaza border to dance without a care. Old and new friends jumped up and down, reveling the swirl of the bass-heavy beats.Maya Alper was standing toward the back of the bar with teams of environmentally conscious volunteers, picking up trash and passing out free vodka shots to party-goers who reused their cups. Just after 6.a.m., as a light-blue dawn broke and the headliner D.J. took the stage, air raid sirens cut through the ethereal trap music. Rockets streaked overhead.Alper, 25, jumped into her car and raced to the main road. But at the intersection she encountered crowds of stricken festival attendees, shouting at drivers to turn around. Then, a noise. Firecrackers? Panicked men and women staggering down the road just in front of her fell to the ground in pools of blood. Gunshots. ‘Several’ US citizens confirmed killed in Israel-Hamas conflict: NSC The...

One of Colorado’s coolest opening-day ski traditions has nothing to do with skiing

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:08:25 GMT

Arapahoe Basin is usually the first Colorado ski area to open for the season, and when the big day arrives, there’s always a long lift line with a party vibe and plenty of wacky costumes. It isn’t the only long line filled with antsy skiers and snowboarders, though. For some A-Basin regulars, their top priority isn’t getting a seat on one of the first chairs up the mountain. It’s snagging a coveted mug, which will hang from the ceiling of the 6th Alley Bar & Grill in the base lodge for the duration of the season. It’s no easy task getting into the Mug Club. Only 473 mugs are sold each year, the limiting factor being the number of hooks in the ceiling above the horseshoe-shaped bar. There have been times when the line to buy mugs seemed longer than the lift line.“You need to get there early if you want one, that’s for sure,” said longtime chief operating officer Alan Henceroth.Henceroth can’t recall when the Mug Club started, but...

The same goes for homegrown plants.Boulder resident Sean Roby has been growing cannabis both commercially and at home for the better part of three decades. While the exact time for harvest varies by strain, he said the magic window for most is early- to mid-October. But there are other telltale signs to look for, such as an amber color in the trichomes, which are typically viewable with some sort of magnifying glass.“Generally, when you look at the flower you’re going to see that the hairs that were all white have now started turning red or orange or amber,” Roby said. “It’s just really crisp and hard to the touch and pulsing with resin.”Longmont home grower Ben Owens agrees, sayin...
