PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Thorns forward Janine Beckie tore a ligament in her right knee and will miss the National Women’s Soccer League season and the World Cup this summer with Canada. Beckie tore her ACL in a preseason game between the Thorns and the U.S. under-23 women’s national team Wednesday. She said “heartbroken is an understatement” in a post Friday on social media. “Having worked so hard during the off-season for what was set to be one of the biggest seasons of my career, defending the title for Portland Thorns and of course playing in the World Cup for Canada, being out for an extended period of time is a difficult pill to swallow,” she wrote. Beckie, 28, has played for the Canadian national team since 2014. She made her 101st appearance for Canada in a match against Japan last month in the team’s final match of the SheBelieves Cup tournament in Texas. Harvard astronomer says extra-terrestrial probes may have already been sent to Earth, gone undetected

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 11:40:03 GMT

A new paper co-authored by a Harvard University professor and a top official at the Pentagon suggests we may not have to look far for extraterrestrial life. Harvard’s Head of Astronomy Avi Loeb partnered with the Pentagon to do research on UFOs. The theory has drawn skepticism. Speaking this week, though, Loeb said it’s possible we could have contact with some form of extraterrestrial life within our lifetime. “We just need to look up and collect that data and figure out what is going on in our cosmic neighborhood,” Loeb said. The new paper by Loeb and his Pentagon counterpart suggests aliens may have already sent probes to earth that haven’t been spotted. Loeb spoke with 7NEWS about the paper, saying he believes that, if there are visitors from beyond, they’re something we can detect. “Even if there are extraterrestrial civilizations, they share the reality that we have,” he said. “Therefore, whatever they sent in our direction should obey the laws of physi...
