LOS ANGELES (AP) — Five months after a deadlocked jury led to a mistrial for actor Danny Masterson, the former star of “That '70s Show" is on trial again in a Los Angeles court. Masterson is accused of raping three women between 2001 and 2003. He could get 45 years in prison if convicted. Here are the key elements, characters and issues that will factor into the retrial.DIRECT DISCUSSION OF DRUGGINGA judge is now allowing the prosecution to say directly that Masterson drugged all three women before raping them, in what may be the biggest difference from the first trial. Previously, the drugging could only be implied when the women testified to feeling disoriented, losing memory and going unconscious to a degree that could not be explained by the alcohol they had consumed. In opening statements Monday, Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller said all three women had consumed drinks Masterson had given them, and that the “evidence will show that they were drug...

Risk of large hail, isolated tornadoes later today

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:04:14 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Our first of two severe weather threats is expected later today, with the second risk not too far behind.A tricky forecast will unfold this afternoon as a "capped" atmosphere may save some of us but break to leave others susceptible to strong storms. At this point in time, strong to severe storms are still possible for much of our area this afternoon and evening as a disturbance passing overhead, in combination with plenty of moisture and a dry line out west, will help trigger storm development.Slight risk (2 out of 5) for strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon & eveningA cap in the atmosphere, acting as a lid on growing storms, could suppress storm development. However, most high-resolution models show this cap breaking along and east of I-35 resulting in a better chance of storms and showers. The cap in the atmosphere will determine whether storms will develop Tuesday afternoon/eveningIf the cap breaks and storms develop, large hail, isolated tornadoes and da...

Questions remain for flood reduction project in north Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Homeowners along Little Walnut Creek in north Austin are frustrated with a city of Austin project that was supposed to reduce the risk of flooding in their neighborhood after it was put on hold with no indication of resuming anytime soon. A storm culvert adjacent to the homes became clogged with dead trees and debris, leading to extreme flooding. And then with only 30 minutes left in the reception, more people began grabbing their coats and heading out! I felt so bad for the couple. They must have felt like their big day was boring people......I find this to be totally rude. It's one thing if there's an emergency but super tacky if you're simply rushing to get home. We will soon be sending out invites to OUR wedding. Can you ask your listeners if they would find it rude if I included a request that guests stay for the entire reception?  We are spending so much time and money on this one day. Dear Amy: My husband was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 67.About six months after diagnosis, we had a graduation picnic for our granddaughter. My brother-in-law came, got drunk, and when he left, he banged our daughter’s car and told no one. (We were not aware that he was so drunk.)My husband called his brother and he admitted that he’d hit her car, but said he was too drunk to return to the party, so he was going to call later the next day.My daughter called her uncle and lectured him about drinking and driving and was pretty hard on him. I did the same.He texted us and said he didn’t need to be lectured by us and that we wouldn’t see him again. He said he’d send a check for the damage. My husband called him and did not lecture him, but said that we were concerned about his drinking. (We had expressed this in the past.)Over the next two years, he never checked on my declining husband and did not come to his funeral less than three years later. My children and I are bitter. When this ...
